Do Photo Booths Still Print Pictures?

Yes, but not all of them. Classic booths print on the spot in about eight seconds. Social, 360 and headshot booths are digital only, which is where quote comparisons go wrong.

You already know the answer you want. You remember photo strips, you want them at your event, and you are trying to work out whether that is still a thing people do or whether everything went digital while you were not looking.

Yes. Photo booths still print. Not all of them, which is the part that catches people out when they compare quotes.

Which booths print and which do not

Booth Prints? Guests take home
Classic photo booth Yes 2×6 or 4×6 strips, plus digital
Social / digital booth No Digital only, sent instantly
360 video booth No A video clip
Headshot booth No A high-resolution portrait file

So when someone advertises a low hourly rate, check which of these they are quoting. A digital booth is a genuinely good product and it is a different product. Comparing its price to a printing booth is comparing two different things.

What a printing booth actually produces

Ours shoots on a DSLR with studio flash, not a tablet camera, and prints on a dye-sublimation printer. Strips come out dry and handleable in about eight seconds. Guests can reprint as many copies as they want, so a group of four leaves with four strips rather than arguing over one.

Every print carries a custom overlay designed for your event, your names and date, or a logo for corporate work. You approve that design before the event rather than seeing it for the first time on the night.

Guests also get the digital version, so nobody has to choose. That is worth saying plainly, because the most common assumption is that printing means no digital.

Why prints still matter

I bought a 360 video booth first and a printing booth second, and the printing booth was busier from the first event. It surprised me at the time. It stopped surprising me after about the third wedding.

A video goes to a camera roll with two thousand other videos. A printed strip goes on a fridge, in a wallet, into a guest book. It is the only thing at most events that a guest physically carries home, and it has your event's name on it.

For weddings there is a second reason. A print booth doubles as a guest book if you put out an album and a pen. One strip for the guest, one for the couple, with a note underneath.

What to check before you book

  1. Are prints included, or an add-on? This is the single most common hidden cost in photo booth quotes.
  2. Are reprints unlimited? Some operators cap prints per session or per event.
  3. Is it a real camera? DSLR and flash versus a tablet is visible in the print, especially in a dim reception room.
  4. Do guests also get digital? They should.
  5. Who is watching the printer? Paper jams happen. Unattended booths stay jammed.

On ours, prints and unlimited reprints are included on the classic booth, and an attendant stays with it the whole event. That last one exists because a printer with nobody watching it is a printer that stops working at some point in the evening.

Do prints slow the booth down?

Slightly, and less than people expect. A session runs about thirty seconds end to end including the print. Where it matters is guest count. Above roughly 150 guests we suggest three hours rather than two, so the line clears rather than turning people away. That is the same advice we give for large family events across Hialeah and Miramar, where the queue forms early and stays.

Frequently asked questions

Do photo booths still print pictures?

Classic photo booths do, on the spot, in about eight seconds. Social, 360 and headshot booths are digital only. Always check which type a quote refers to before comparing prices.

What size are photo booth prints?

Standard is a 2×6 strip or a 4×6 postcard layout. Both take a custom overlay with your names, date or logo.

Can guests print more than one copy?

On ours, yes. Reprints are unlimited, so every person in a group photo can walk away with their own strip.

Do guests get digital copies as well as prints?

Yes. Photos go to phones by QR code, text, email or AirDrop, and you receive the full gallery after the event.

Can a photo booth double as a wedding guest book?

It is one of the better uses for it. Put out an album, glue and pens, and guests leave a strip and a message. Tell us when you book and we will set the print layout to produce two copies per session.

The short version

Printing is alive and it is the reason most people book a booth in the first place. Just make sure the quote in front of you includes prints rather than selling them separately, and make sure someone is staying with the printer all night.

See the classic booth or call (347) 577-3033 and tell me your guest count. I will tell you how many hours you actually need.
